A message from Barry Walker
With more than 40 years experience as a teacher, I have worked as an Art Specialist across all year levels T-12, as well as at a university level, teaching students in the education field.
As an exhibiting artist, I am collected at both a personal and corporate level, having hosted many exhibitions both solo and at a group level.
With skills across a wide range of art media, I am best known for my watercolour paintings and mixed media works. As co-owner of the ‘Southern School of Art’, I worked with adults across a wide range of genre. In addition I have, for many years, instructed children at a private level. Recent years have seen me work with individuals as part of the NDIS program to provide art therapy.
Please feel free to access my website to see more about me and my art.
What is Integrate Art?
Having recently retired, I realised the wealth of knowledge that I have amassed over the years. This website is an opportunity to share what I know with teachers in the Primary setting. A chance to give back to the profession and help teachers develop a vibrant and successful art program in their classrooms. Each activity is tried and proven over many years.
The focus is not just about making pretty, craft-based art to adorn the walls. It is more about learning new skills, whilst producing successful artworks that reflect a level of control and individuality. Like any other subject, Art must be taught. Skills must be developed, and an understanding gained, before true individuality and creativeness can flourish. Learn the rules before you seek to break them!
So, how does it work?
Each activity is available in PowerPoint format ready to project onto the screen in your classroom.
The activities are easy to follow, relevant to the National Curriculum and Standards, and presented in a manner that allows both student and teacher to interact on a step by step level. Follow the steps, learn new skills and produce quality artworks.
-
The PowerPoints are clear, can be stopped at each stage and provide a range of presentation forms including videos, that clearly outline and demonstrate the processes involved.
-
For the teacher, there is a clear list of everything needed to complete the activity as well as notes on the theory and process. All this can easily be copied and added to your teaching program to make your life that much easier.
-
The final product will be of a high quality and able to be hung with pride in the classroom. But first and foremost, the students will learn techniques and theory that they will build upon and be able to use across all subject areas.
